Sunday Reflections with Madam CEO for Justice and Fairness

By John Kariuki

Madam Esther Muchemi, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Samchi Group of companies fondly known as Madam CEO, has shared a profound Sunday thought to inspire and guide us. This week, she reflects on the themes of Justice and Fairness, drawing valuable lessons from the parable of the workers in the vineyard found in Matthew 20:1–16.

In the parable, a farm owner hires workers at different times of the day, yet promises all of them the same wages. At the end of the day, the early workers grumble, questioning why those who worked fewer hours received the same pay. The owner's response is striking:

“Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?” (Matthew 20:15 NIV)

Madam CEO emphasizes the key lesson in this statement: "Are you envious because I am generous?" This simple yet profound question exposes the root of their dissatisfaction—jealousy and envy. The early workers received exactly what they had agreed upon, but their discontent stemmed from comparing themselves to others.

Madam CEO challenges us to examine our attitudes and offers these key takeaways for the week ahead:

Avoid jealousy and envy of things that do not belong to us, as they breed unnecessary negativity. Instead, focus on your own journey and blessings. Complaining about your rewards or circumstances diminishes the value of what you have been given; be grateful for what you receive. True contentment lies in knowing that your worth is not determined by comparing yourself to others.

Remember that it is God who rewards each of us according to His will and purpose, not based on how early or late we start but on the productivity and effort we put in. A positive mindset free of envy and jealousy sets the tone for success. Focus on your own path, and trust that your diligence will be rewarded in due time.

As you plan for the week, let this reflection guide your mindset. Stay in your lane, embrace gratitude, and resist the urge to compare yourself to others. "Be whom God wants you to be, for you are not a copy of someone else."

With these insights, let us approach our work, relationships, and goals with fairness, justice, and unwavering faith in God's plan.
