In a remarkable display of expert care, Becky Kirwa, a local resident, is on the road to full recovery after experiencing a life-threatening medical condition that caused severe and persistent headaches. After several attempts to manage the pain with painkillers and visiting other medical facilities with little success, Becky’s condition worsened, leading her and her husband, Jonah Kirwa, to seek help at Tophill Hospital Eldoret. The hospital’s swift and accurate diagnosis, coupled with timely medical intervention, ultimately saved her life.
Becky’s ordeal began when she started experiencing headaches that she initially thought were manageable with over-the-counter painkillers. However, as the pain persisted and worsened, she found herself in an increasingly difficult situation. "At first, the pain was tolerable, but it just wouldn't go away," Becky said. "I tried some painkillers, and for a while, they seemed to help. But as the hours passed, the pain became so intense that I couldn’t function anymore."
Her husband, Jonah, explained that he had gone to work that day, unaware of the severity of Becky’s condition. "She called me to say the headache had returned, and after taking the painkillers, she felt a bit better. But when I got to work, she called me again, and by then, the pain had intensified so much that she could hardly speak."
Jonah immediately left his job and rushed home, where he found Becky in a severely distressed state. "When I arrived home, she was in so much pain that she couldn't even talk. She was just holding her head, rocking back and forth," he recalled. Concerned for her well-being, Jonah took her to a nearby hospital, where she was administered more painkillers. However, the relief was short-lived, and by the evening, Becky was in even more severe pain. After careful consideration, the couple decided to take her to Tophill Hospital Eldoret, a facility with which they had a positive history, having received excellent care for another family member in the past.
Upon arrival at Tophill Hospital, the medical team immediately sprang into action. Becky underwent a series of diagnostic tests, including an MRI and a CT scan. Dr. Florentius Koech, the CEO and a lead physician at Tophill Hospital, personally oversaw her case. After analyzing the test results, Dr. Koech explained to Jonah that Becky’s condition was far more serious than they had initially realized. "The MRI and CT scan showed that there was significant pressure on Becky’s brain, which was not supposed to be the case. The pressure was likely the result of a bacterial infection, which was hindering the normal flow of blood to the brain and causing the intense headaches."
Dr. Koech went on to explain the process they used to determine the cause of Becky’s condition. "We needed to investigate the source of the pressure to ensure we were treating the underlying issue. After further testing, including a CSF (Cerebrospinal Fluid) sample, we confirmed the presence of bacterial infection. This infection had caused inflammation in the brain, which was resulting in the severe headaches."
Becky’s condition required immediate treatment to reduce the pressure on her brain and combat the bacterial infection. Dr. Koech and his team prescribed a course of medication aimed at reducing the pressure and treating the infection. They monitored Becky closely, checking on her progress regularly. "We didn’t waste any time in starting her treatment. We needed to act quickly to prevent any further complications," Dr. Koech explained. "The medication worked to stabilize her condition, and after a few days, we saw a marked improvement."
Within days of receiving the right treatment, Becky’s symptoms began to subside. The severe headaches that had once seemed unbearable became a distant memory, and she was able to resume her normal activities. "I’m so grateful to Dr. Koech and the entire team at Tophill Hospital. They acted quickly and professionally, and thanks to their care, I’m now free of the pain that had consumed me for so long," Becky said, her voice filled with gratitude.
Jonah also expressed his deep thanks to the hospital and its staff. "From the moment we arrived, the care we received was exceptional. Dr. Koech was not only thorough in his explanation of Becky’s condition but also took the time to ensure that we understood everything. He and his team gave Becky the best chance to recover, and for that, we are forever grateful."
To further confirm the treatment’s success, the results of the CSF test were reviewed after several days. The test showed no growth of bacterial infections, indicating that the infection had been successfully treated. This was a crucial moment in Becky’s recovery, confirming that the course of treatment had worked as intended.
The couple’s experience at Tophill Hospital reflects the hospital’s unwavering commitment to providing top-notch medical care to its patients. The hospital’s state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, skilled doctors, and attentive nursing staff are highly regarded in the community, and many patients trust Tophill Hospital with their most critical health concerns.
