Uasin Gishu County Government Launches New Road Projects for 2024/2025 Financial Year

The County Government of Uasin Gishu, through the Department of Roads, Transport, and Public Works, has initiated several road improvement projects across its 30 wards. This is part of the county's ongoing efforts to meet the ambitious target set by Governor Jonathan Bii of completing at least 1,000 kilometers of roads each financial year.

During an inspection tour of completed road projects in Kapsoya Ward, Ainabkoi Sub-County, Chief Officer for Roads, Engineer Abraham Kiptalam, revealed that the county had already graded 14.6 kilometers of roads and graveled 6.3 kilometers since the program began earlier this month.

"In Kapsoya Ward, we plan to construct 10 kilometers of new roads. Additionally, in the nearby Munyaka informal settlement area, we aim to grade 20 kilometers of roads. The county will also carry out drainage works covering 21 meters within these wards," said Engineer Kiptalam.

This year, the county government is also focused on expanding its solar street lighting program to areas that were not covered during the 2023/2024 financial year.

“I would like to thank our Governor for providing us with clear direction and setting targets to ensure that all class D roads, which fall under the regional government, are accessible,” Engineer Kiptalam added.

Isaac Kirwa, the MCA for Kapsoya, also assured residents that enough funds had been allocated for the repair of roads that were damaged by heavy rains last year. He urged locals to remain patient as the road improvement works were being implemented.

Some of the roads that have already been completed in the area include:

  • Border Farm Rd – 0.5 Km
  • Daima Drive – 0.6 Km
  • District Commissioner (DC) - Ndaliti Rd – 0.3 Km
  • Mt. Ararat - Silas Rd – 0.2 Km
  • Alpha Jnr Academy Rd – 0.2 Km
  • Illula - Malakwen - Aaron Rd – 0.7 Km
  • Malakwen - Barbengi Rd – 1.2 Km
  • Bright Star Academy Rd – 0.6 Km
  • Kofi Annan Estate Rd – 2.0 Km
  • Kapsoya Catholic - St. Mary's - Border Farm (grading) – 2.0 Km

The ongoing projects are expected to significantly improve road infrastructure and accessibility for Uasin Gishu residents.
