Residents of Uasin Gishu County have been urged to collaborate with the police in the fight against crime, as local authorities emphasize the importance of community involvement in ensuring safety. Speaking at an end-of-year celebration at the Eldoret Police Station, Patrick Wekesa, the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) for Soy Sub County, encouraged the public to provide crucial information that could lead to the apprehension of criminals.
Wekesa reassured residents that sharing such information with the police should not be a cause for fear, as it plays a vital role in maintaining security. “Now that Eldoret has been elevated to city status, it is essential to keep crime in check in order to attract more investors and foster growth,” he said.
The OCPD also warned the public about individuals impersonating police officers, attempting to deceive people. He assured the public that such criminals would soon be apprehended. “Their days are numbered,” he stated firmly.
Wekesa acknowledged the significant progress made through community policing efforts, noting that residents now live more peacefully in their estates compared to previous years when fear of crime was widespread.
The event saw police officers and members of the public mingling freely, further fostering the spirit of cooperation.
Apostle Angelina Marina, who spoke during the event, advised the public to respect law enforcement officers and pray for their work, acknowledging the difficult nature of their duties. "The work of the police is not easy," she said, urging the community to offer support for their tireless efforts in maintaining law and order.
The collaborative efforts between the police and the residents of Uasin Gishu County are expected to strengthen security and contribute to a safer environment for all.
