Westlands Member of Parliament (MP) Tim Wanyonyi has strongly condemned the recent attack on Kitisuru MCA Alvin Olando, who was assaulted by goons in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) on Monday. The attack has sparked widespread outrage across the political spectrum, with calls for immediate justice and stronger measures against political violence.
In a statement released earlier today, Wanyonyi described the assault as a "cowardly and barbaric" act, emphasizing that it not only violated Olando’s personal rights but also undermined the core values of democracy and the rule of law.
"I strongly condemn this attack on MCA Alvin Olando. Such acts of political thuggery are a direct assault on our democratic principles and an affront to the freedoms we hold dear," said Wanyonyi. "Violence in any form is unacceptable. Violence against one of us is violence against all of us. We must stand together as a society to reject such acts of impunity."
The MP called the perpetrators of the attack "cowards" and stressed that such violent behavior has no place in a democratic society. He further expressed his disbelief that in the modern era, individuals continue to use violence to suppress differing political views.
"Those who perpetrate such primitive actions are not only trying to silence opposing voices but are also threatening the stability and progress of our nation," Wanyonyi remarked. "We must foster political tolerance and embrace the spirit of accommodation for differing opinions. This is the only way to build a peaceful and progressive society."
Wanyonyi also urged the relevant authorities to swiftly investigate the attack, apprehend those responsible, and ensure they face the full force of the law. He called for the incident to serve as a warning to anyone contemplating similar actions in the future.
"Let us work together to end political violence and thuggery. This is an opportunity for us to reaffirm our commitment to a peaceful and democratic Kenya, where all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations, can express their views freely and without fear," he concluded.
The attack on MCA Alvin Olando has sparked widespread condemnation from various political leaders, human rights organizations, and citizens alike, who have called for stronger measures to ensure the safety of political leaders and citizens across the country.
As investigations into the incident continue, many are hopeful that this will be a turning point in the fight against political violence and intimidation in Kenya.
End.
