In a significant move towards improving water access and hygiene standards, the County Government of Uasin Gishu has launched a new water project at Koibarak Primary School in Ainabkoi Sub-County. This initiative is part of the county's broader commitment to ensure clean water access for all, as outlined in the leadership’s manifesto.
The project, financed through the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action Program (FLLOCA), aims to address water scarcity issues by installing a solar-powered water system at Koibarak Primary. The improvements will include the construction of an underground water tank and an elevated steel tank tower to enhance water storage. In addition to serving the school, the project will benefit the surrounding community with the establishment of three new water points in the area.
Mrs. Elizabeth Sinyei, the Chairperson of the Board of Management at Koibarak Primary, expressed her gratitude for the project, recognizing the positive impact it will have on the school and the wider community. "Access to clean water will improve hygiene standards among our students, promoting better health and creating a more conducive environment for learning," she said.
The launch ceremony also featured remarks from Ms. Mercy Kemboi, the Climate Change Unit Officer for Ainabkoi, who emphasized the importance of adhering to project timelines and ensuring the highest quality standards. "The contractor must follow the specifications outlined in the Bill of Quantities to guarantee timely and durable implementation," Ms. Kemboi stated.
Ms. Viola Bartocho, the Chief of Beliomo Location, highlighted that Koibarak Primary is the only public school in the area, making the project particularly significant for both students and the local community. "The availability of clean water will encourage parents to prioritize hygiene, ultimately leading to a healthier and more sustainable environment," she said.
The new water project is part of Uasin Gishu Governor's ongoing efforts to combat climate change and improve residents' livelihoods. The initiative aligns with the county's "Nguzo Number 7" commitment, focusing on sustainable development and climate-resilient infrastructure.
As the project progresses, it is expected to provide long-term solutions to water scarcity in Ainabkoi Sub-County, ensuring reliable access to clean water for the school and the surrounding community for years to come.
