In a significant move to improve labor relations in the county’s healthcare sector, County Secretary Mr. Ambrose Tarus has signed a recognition agreement with the Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers (KNUMLO). The ceremony, held at the County Chambers, was attended by key figures in the county government, including Chief Officer for Promotive and Preventive Health Dr. Paul Wangwe, County Public Service Board Secretary Mr. Silas Rono, Director of Human Resource Management Nathan Koech, Director of Administration Samwel Kiptoo, and union representatives.
During the signing, Mr. Tarus emphasized the county’s commitment to ensuring a supportive and cooperative working environment for healthcare professionals. “This agreement demonstrates our dedication to enhancing the welfare of our medical workers, especially laboratory officers, who play a vital role in delivering high-quality healthcare to our residents,” he said.
Union representatives expressed their appreciation for the county’s recognition of their members, acknowledging the agreement’s importance in improving working conditions, career growth, and fair treatment for laboratory officers. “We are grateful for the county’s openness to engage with us. This agreement is a milestone for our members,” a KNUMLO official remarked.
The recognition agreement sets the stage for formal negotiations on essential employment matters, such as salaries, benefits, and workplace policies. It is expected to promote industrial harmony and improve morale among laboratory officers, which will, in turn, enhance healthcare service delivery across the county.
Both the county government and union representatives concluded the ceremony by reaffirming their commitment to adhering to the terms of the agreement and collaborating to resolve any challenges faced by healthcare workers in the region.
