Uasin Gishu Governor H.E. Dr. Jonathan Bii's ambitious development agenda for the county took center stage as Deputy Governor H.E. Evans Kapkea chaired a crucial forum on budget absorption for key projects. The meeting, which was attended by County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), Chief Officers (COs), Directors, and other county officials, sought to evaluate the county’s budget absorption rate and formulate strategies to accelerate the implementation of key development projects.
The forum, organized by the Department of Finance and Economic Planning, focused on enhancing the county's development absorption rate. DG Kapkea, speaking on behalf of Governor Dr. Bii, emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and effective financial management in driving the county’s sustainable economic growth. He called for increased efficiency in utilizing the allocated budget to benefit the residents of Uasin Gishu.
One of the key highlights of the forum was the discussion on the county's budget absorption performance. DG Kapkea revealed that the county’s previous budget absorption rate stood at 62%, meaning 38% of the allocated budget had not been utilized. To address this challenge, the county government is introducing performance contracts for CECMs, aiming for a 10% increase in budget absorption in the upcoming financial year.
The County Executive Member for Finance and Economic Planning, Micah Rogony, echoed the need for synergy and collaborative efforts among departments to ensure that the KSh 7.2 billion development budget for the 2024/25 fiscal year is fully absorbed. He stressed the importance of avoiding rollovers and outlined strategies to improve absorption as the third quarter of the fiscal year progresses.
Mr. Eliud Chemaget, the Chief Officer for Finance, presented detailed interventions to improve the absorption rate, encouraging departments to adhere strictly to procurement protocols to ensure a seamless process from start to finish.
This strategic approach is designed to ensure that Uasin Gishu County not only meets its development goals but also sets a benchmark for effective and sustainable governance. The meeting was a testament to the administration's commitment to improving service delivery and ensuring that the county’s resources are effectively utilized for the benefit of its residents.
In attendance were key county executives, directors, and officials who are tasked with implementing the initiatives that will drive Uasin Gishu County’s development forward.
