Eldoret-Based Human Rights Activist Kipkorir Ngetich Calls for Unity and Visionary Leadership Following AUC Election Outcome

In  a statement reflecting on the recently concluded African Union Commission (AUC) election, Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich lauded former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for his statesmanship and commitment to Pan-African ideals. Ngetich expressed gratitude to Odinga for gracefully accepting defeat and demonstrating true leadership by showing solidarity with the new chair of the AUC.

The activist also extended congratulations to President Dr. William Ruto for his unwavering support of Odinga, recognizing his leadership and patriotism. “President Ruto not only stood by Raila Odinga but also demonstrated remarkable vision by acknowledging the potential in Odinga’s candidacy. His support for Raila shows a true statesman’s commitment to Kenya’s role in the global community,” said Ngetich.

Ngetich called for the two leaders to use this moment to build on their relationship, urging them to continue uniting Kenyans and strengthen the democratic process in the country. He emphasized that both leaders possess courage and determination, qualities that can foster national unity if properly nurtured.

“At a time when political hypocrisy threatens to divide us along ethnic lines, we must focus on what truly unites us—our shared future,” Ngetich added. He stressed that Kenya should not allow the outcome of the AUC election to reignite political confrontations, hatred, and tribalism. Instead, the focus should be on nation-building, unity, and advancing the development agenda for all Kenyans.

The activist expressed concern over Africa’s missed opportunity to have a transformative leader in Odinga at the helm of the AUC, citing his potential to drive positive change in infrastructure, democracy, and conflict resolution across the continent. “It is regrettable that Southern African countries, which Odinga has long supported in their democratic struggles, rejected him when his leadership was needed most. This failure reflects a deeper issue with Africa’s electoral processes, where religion and multinational influence often overshadow the region’s best interests,” he remarked.

Ngetich proposed that African leaders reconsider their electoral systems for such high-stakes positions, advocating for a more transparent, delegate-based voting system rather than relying on secret ballots. “In the future, each country should send two delegates to vote on crucial positions to ensure fairer representation and prevent undue external influence,” he suggested.

The human rights advocate also expressed disappointment over the negative publicity surrounding Kenya’s leadership, particularly among some educated youths and leaders. “It is disheartening to see campaigns of hatred against our nation and its leadership. This negativity damages Kenya’s image globally and undermines our diplomatic standing. We must unite and focus on our collective development, resisting the temptation to inflame political tensions,” he said.

Ngetich concluded by urging all Kenyans to remain united, support the government, and allow President Ruto the time he needs to implement his agenda for the country’s progress. He emphasized that the country’s focus should be on nation-building, not on political divisions.

“As we move forward, let this outcome not divide us but rather push us towards greater unity and a shared vision for Kenya’s future. We must stand together and build a better, stronger Kenya for all,” Ngetich concluded.
