Eldoret Polytechnic, RVTTI, and Shamberere National Polytechnic Engage in ICT Mentorship Training with Finnish Partners

In a significant step toward enhancing educational practices, The Eldoret Polytechnic, Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI), and Shamberere National Polytechnic participated in a mentorship training session held at Boma Inn on February 18, 2025. The training, aimed at strengthening dual training methods, was led by Finnish partners from Kainuu and Brahe Colleges.

The session focused on the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) components into dual education programs, offering participants valuable insights into combining theoretical and practical learning. Dual training, which blends classroom education with on-the-job experience, is seen as a crucial approach in shaping students for the modern workforce.

Representing the Technical Education and Vocational Training (TVET) institutions, The Eldoret Polytechnic's Deputy Principal (DP) of Academics, the Registrar of Academics, and Heads of Departments (HODs) responsible for implementing the dual training program were in attendance. They actively engaged with the Finnish partners to explore strategies for incorporating ICT into their curriculum, thus enhancing the overall student learning experience.

The collaboration, part of an ongoing partnership with Kainuu and Brahe colleges, is expected to significantly impact the quality of education and produce graduates with skills better suited to meet the demands of today’s technology-driven job market. The mentorship session also provided a platform for sharing best practices and innovative teaching methods, strengthening the bonds between Kenyan and Finnish educational institutions.

As the training progresses, the focus will continue to be on equipping TVET institutions with the necessary tools to effectively implement dual training models, ensuring students gain both academic knowledge and hands-on experience in their respective fields. The mentorship program is set to play a key role in bridging the skills gap and fostering more dynamic, industry-relevant education pathways for students across the region.
