The former Member of Parliament for Baringo North, Hon. Willy Rotich Kamuren, has passed away in Nairobi while receiving treatment at a local hospital. His family confirmed the news of his death, marking the end of a remarkable political career that spanned several decades.
Hon. Kamuren was a significant figure in Kenya's political landscape. He made history as the first Member of Parliament for Baringo East (formerly Tiaty) from 1963 to 1969, where he served under the Kenya African Democratic Union (KADU) ticket. His leadership and vision during these early years helped to lay the foundation for development in his region.
Following his initial term in Parliament, Kamuren returned to the political scene in 1983 when he was nominated as a Member of Parliament. His political influence continued to grow, and in 1988, he was elected to represent Baringo North Constituency, serving in this capacity until 1997. During his time in office, he was appointed as an Assistant Minister in the Office of the President (OP), a role that saw him play a pivotal role in shaping the country's political and developmental policies.
Hon. Kamuren was also a successful businessman and the owner of the Grand Holiday Hotel and Lodge located along Accra Road in Nairobi, which became an important establishment in the city.
His death marks yet another devastating loss for Baringo County, which has experienced the passing of three key leaders within the span of a month. The community, along with his family and friends, is mourning the loss of a man who dedicated much of his life to public service and the betterment of his people.
Hon. Kamuren’s leadership, foresight, and commitment to his constituents are fondly remembered. His contributions to both politics and the development of Baringo County will be cherished by those who worked with him and those he served.
The family has requested privacy during this difficult time, and plans for his funeral will be communicated in due course.
May his soul rest in peace.
