Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) following complications related to high blood pressure. The hospitalization comes just one day after Waititu was sentenced to 12 years in prison or a Ksh 52.5 million fine for his involvement in a Ksh 588 million corruption case.
Waititu was found guilty of receiving Ksh 26 million as a kickback in relation to a contract awarded during his tenure as governor. The ruling followed months of legal proceedings that highlighted his role in the fraudulent dealings.
As he seeks medical attention, his legal team has yet to comment on the sentence, while the public and political figures continue to react to the case, which has drawn significant attention due to the magnitude of the corruption charges.
The outcome of the case underscores the government's commitment to fighting corruption, even as it unfolds the personal challenges facing the former governor.
