Government Spokesperson Celebrates Opening of Dormitory for Learners with Albinism at Illula Integrated School

By Wasike Elvis

Dr. Isaac Mwaura, the Government Spokesperson, today joined the Illula Integrated School community in Kapsoya to officially open a new dormitory for girls with albinism. The 100-capacity dormitory, which aims to provide safe and comfortable accommodation, is a significant step toward improving access to education for students living with albinism.

In his remarks, Dr. Mwaura praised the school’s new principal, Mr. Yano, for bringing a fresh sense of purpose and leadership to the school, which had faced challenges in the past. “Principal Yano has truly brought a breath of fresh air to this institution. His leadership is already making a difference, and we are here today to support his efforts in creating an environment where all students, especially those with albinism, can thrive,” said Dr. Mwaura.

The new dormitory comes at a crucial time, as Illula Integrated School seeks to strengthen its integrated program, which had previously faced difficulties. Dr. Mwaura emphasized that the government will continue to support the school by addressing key needs, including the provision of teaching aids, mattresses, and employment opportunities for those with visual impairments.

“We are committed to ensuring that students with albinism have access to quality education, appropriate facilities, and opportunities to succeed,” Dr. Mwaura added. “We will also be working to connect the school to additional resources and opportunities from other sectors.”

The government also announced plans to celebrate World Albinism Awareness Day in Eldoret this year, with the aim of raising awareness about the challenges faced by individuals with albinism and advocating for their rights. Dr. Mwaura expressed pride in the achievements of students at Illula Integrated School, noting that some students with albinism have successfully advanced to university, while others are preparing to join higher education institutions.

“The progress we’ve seen here today reflects what is possible when we come together to support these learners,” said Dr. Mwaura. “All children, regardless of their condition, deserve access to education and the tools they need to succeed.”

Dr. Mwaura reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusivity and the provision of equal opportunities for all learners in Kenya.
