Governor Bii Champions Youth Empowerment in Development Agenda

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the youth are at the forefront of the county's development during a key meeting with procurement officers on Tuesday.

In his address, Governor Bii emphasized the importance of empowering young people and integrating them into the county’s economic growth through initiatives like the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) program, which aligns with the guarantees in Kenya's Constitution.

"Empowering the youth is not just a priority, but a constitutional obligation," said Governor Bii. "The AGPO program offers a unique opportunity for our youth to participate in government procurement processes, and we are fully committed to enabling them to tap into these opportunities to foster their entrepreneurial spirit."

The AGPO program, which facilitates youth access to government contracts, was highlighted as a tool for driving inclusivity and ensuring that young people are actively contributing to economic development. Governor Bii noted that the county's leadership is actively working to fast-track procurement processes, making it easier for young entrepreneurs to engage and benefit from government projects.

"As we advance, it is crucial that we expedite these processes. We need to create a conducive environment for our youth to access government contracts without unnecessary delays," the Governor added.

During the meeting, the Governor called for stronger collaborations between county procurement officers and youth-led enterprises, urging them to take proactive steps in bridging any gaps that may hinder youth participation in these opportunities.

Also present at the meeting was Deputy Governor Hon. Kapkea Evans, who reiterated the administration's vision of fostering an inclusive economy that empowers every sector of society. "Today, we are not just discussing policies, but ensuring that youth empowerment is at the heart of Uasin Gishu's growth," said Deputy Governor Evans. "The youth are a crucial part of our development agenda, and their success is tied to the county's prosperity."

The meeting underscored the need for continued dialogue and action to ensure that young people are not left behind as the county works toward its vision of sustainable economic growth.

Governor Bii concluded the session by pledging his administration’s support for youth initiatives and expressing his confidence in the capabilities of Uasin Gishu's young entrepreneurs. "This is just the beginning," he said. "We are committed to creating more avenues for our youth to thrive, and together, we will build a stronger Uasin Gishu."

The Governor’s call for youth inclusion in the development process has resonated strongly with local stakeholders, and the county continues to prioritize policies aimed at creating job opportunities and fostering entrepreneurship among its youthful population.
