Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has issued a public alert, warning residents of the heightened risk of fires due to the ongoing dry and windy season. The governor urged citizens to exercise caution and promptly report any fire outbreaks to emergency response teams.
"We are currently facing a dry and windy season, which has greatly heightened the risk of fires. I urge the public to stay alert and immediately report any emergencies by using the available emergency contact numbers," Governor Chelilim stated.
The warning comes as several regions in Uasin Gishu experience prolonged dry conditions, increasing the likelihood of wildfires and accidental blazes. Authorities have also noted that strong winds could cause fires to spread rapidly, endangering lives, property, and the environment.
The county government has reinforced its emergency response measures, ensuring that fire departments remain on high alert. Governor Chelilim emphasized the importance of community cooperation in preventing disasters, advising residents to avoid actions that could spark fires, such as burning dry vegetation or improperly discarding flammable materials.
"We must all take responsibility in safeguarding our communities. Let us avoid any activities that could ignite fires, and if you notice any signs of a fire, report it immediately," the governor urged.
Residents are encouraged to use official county emergency contact numbers to report incidents, ensuring swift response and mitigation efforts.
The county government continues to monitor the situation closely and has pledged to work alongside relevant authorities to ensure public safety.
