Governor Bii Commissions Kaptumo Water Project to Enhance Access to Clean Water and Support Agriculture

Uasin Gishu Governor, Jonathan Bii, today officially launched the Kaptumo Water Project in Cheptiret/Kipchamo Ward, marking a significant step towards improving access to clean water and boosting agricultural productivity in the region. The initiative will serve Kaptumo High School, the local dispensary, and benefit over 100 households, ensuring a reliable and sustainable water supply for the community.

Governor Bii, who has made access to clean water a cornerstone of his development agenda, expressed his commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of county residents. “Providing clean water is a fundamental promise I made to the people of Uasin Gishu, and I’m proud to say we are delivering on that promise,” he said during the commissioning ceremony.

The Kaptumo Water Project goes beyond domestic water supply. It is designed to support irrigation efforts, which will empower farmers in the area and enhance the county’s agricultural sector. This, according to the governor, is in line with his administration's progressive Nguzo Kumi agenda, which focuses on key areas such as water, agriculture, and overall economic development.

“This project will not only meet the domestic water needs of our residents but will also improve irrigation, benefiting our hardworking farmers and significantly boosting agricultural production,” Governor Bii added.

The ceremony was attended by the county’s deputy governor, Hon. Kapkea Evans, the Area MCA, Hon. Gilbert Sato, and several other county officials. Their collective presence underscored the collaborative effort behind the project, which aims to address the water scarcity challenges faced by the community.

Local residents and farmers have welcomed the project, with many expressing hope that it will provide long-term solutions to the region's water and irrigation challenges. The project is also expected to contribute to the broader goals of improving food security and empowering local communities.

Governor Bii reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustainable development, saying, “The Kaptumo Water Project is just one example of our continued focus on improving the quality of life for all Uasin Gishu residents. We will continue to invest in infrastructure that supports both social and economic development.”

The launch of the Kaptumo Water Project marks a milestone in the county’s efforts to ensure access to clean water for all, as well as a step forward in the broader vision of agricultural growth and self-sufficiency.
