This morning, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii successfully recharged the Seiyo North and Kaptumo II cattle dips and distributed acaricides to enhance tick control across several cattle dips in the Cheptiret/Kipchamo area. The initiative will benefit the Kipsano, Chuchuniat, Mosop, Elgeyo, Kipchamo Central, Kerita/Tulwet, and Chepkigen I and II cattle dips, offering vital support to the region’s livestock farmers.
Governor Bii emphasized that strengthening the livestock sector remains a key priority of his administration, aimed at improving the livelihoods of local farmers. "Today’s efforts to recharge these cattle dips and distribute acaricides are part of our continued commitment to strengthening the livestock value chain. Healthy livestock is crucial to the well-being of our farmers and the broader agricultural economy," Governor Bii said.
Over the past two years, the county government has successfully rehabilitated and recharged 183 cattle dips across Uasin Gishu, demonstrating significant progress in the fight against tick-borne diseases, which have long impacted the region’s livestock productivity.
“The rehabilitation of these cattle dips is just one of the ways we are supporting our farmers. By improving animal health, we are not only ensuring healthier livestock but also boosting the productivity of our agricultural sector,” Governor Bii added.
The cattle dip recharge program is designed to reduce the prevalence of ticks, which are known to cause diseases such as East Coast Fever and Anaplasmosis, both of which have a major impact on livestock health and farmers' income.
Present at the event were the Deputy Governor, Hon. Evans Kapkea, Area MCA Hon. Gilbert Sato, and other county officials, who were praised for their continued support in implementing such projects that directly benefit the local agricultural community.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s ongoing commitment to improving livestock farming, ensuring that the region's farmers have access to the resources they need to thrive. This initiative, alongside other agricultural development efforts, is expected to have a lasting impact on the local economy, driving growth and prosperity for Uasin Gishu’s farmers.
