In a bid to empower small-scale traders and bolster business sustainability, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has reaffirmed the need for a 24-hour economy, stating that extended business hours create more opportunities for entrepreneurs and strengthen economic growth.
Speaking on Tuesday evening during the commissioning of the Kapseret Economic Stimulus Program (ESP) Market, Governor Bii emphasized the government's commitment to creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
“For our traders to reach their full potential, embracing a 24-hour economy is crucial as it creates more opportunities and strengthens business sustainability. This market will serve as a catalyst for economic growth, enabling traders to operate in a secure and well-equipped space,” said Governor Bii.
The newly launched Kapseret ESP Market is expected to provide a structured and supportive trading environment, addressing challenges faced by small-scale traders, including lack of proper infrastructure and market congestion.
Also in attendance were Deputy Governor Hon. Evans Kapkea, Kapseret MP Hon. Oscar Kipchumba Sudi, Hon. Joseph Wainaina (Nominated), and area MCA Hon. Moses Kebenei, among other leaders. The dignitaries lauded the initiative, acknowledging the impact it will have on local businesses and employment creation.
Hon. Sudi noted that the market will not only uplift traders but also stimulate the local economy by attracting more investors and boosting commerce in the region. “This is a significant milestone for Kapseret, and we must ensure that our traders take full advantage of the opportunities presented,” he remarked.
The establishment of the Kapseret ESP Market aligns with the county’s broader agenda to promote entrepreneurship, improve livelihoods, and drive economic development. Governor Bii reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to supporting traders through infrastructural development and policy frameworks that encourage business expansion.
Traders expressed gratitude to the county government for the initiative, citing improved trading conditions and the potential for increased earnings.
With the push for a 24-hour economy gaining momentum, Uasin Gishu County remains committed to policies that foster economic resilience, ensuring that businesses operate in an environment that maximizes their productivity and profitability.
