Uasin Gishu County witnessed a major milestone in its education sector yesterday with the unveiling of a new state-of-the-art laboratory at Salvator Mundi Secondary School in Murgusi, Turbo. The laboratory is part of our ongoing commitment to improving educational infrastructure and providing our students with the tools they need to succeed in an ever-changing world.
Joined by President William Ruto’s aide, Farouk Kibet, the official opening of the laboratory marked a significant step in strengthening science and technology education in Uasin Gishu. The new facility will enable students to gain hands-on experience, enhancing their learning in the sciences and fostering a spirit of innovation that is essential for future leaders.
“This laboratory is more than just a classroom; it is a gateway to new opportunities for our students,” I said during the opening ceremony. “It reflects our belief that when we invest in quality education, we empower our children to dream big and achieve even bigger. Education is the foundation upon which our community will grow and thrive.”
The celebration didn’t stop with the unveiling of the new laboratory. Following the event, I joined local leaders and the community at a Thanksgiving Ceremony in Peter’s Soin, Turbo, to honor the successes of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates. This was a moment of pride for all of us as we recognized the dedication, hard work, and determination that led to this year’s stellar academic results.
“We are not just celebrating exam results; we are celebrating the future of Uasin Gishu,” I said to the gathered crowd. “The achievements of our students show that with the right support and resources, our youth are capable of greatness. Today, we recognize their success and encourage them to continue striving for excellence.”
At the Thanksgiving Ceremony, I was joined by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) Hon. Nicholas Bittok, Hon. Isaac Samoei (Kapsaos), Hon. Samuel Sawe (Kamagut), and Hon. Gilbert Lagat (Kiplombe). Their leadership and advocacy for quality education in their respective constituencies have been instrumental in driving these educational achievements across Uasin Gishu.
The new laboratory is just one of several initiatives that reflect our administration's commitment to transforming education in Uasin Gishu. In addition to the new facility, we have invested in the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) sector, launching a school milk program that benefits 40,000 learners. We’ve also provided learning materials to all 673 ECDE centers in the county and promoted 1,374 teachers to permanent terms to ensure stability and quality in the classroom.
“We are creating an educational ecosystem that nurtures both academic excellence and personal development,” I shared. “By equipping our schools with the necessary resources and supporting our teachers, we are ensuring that our children have the opportunity to succeed and build a bright future.”
These initiatives are just the beginning. As we continue to invest in education, we are laying the groundwork for future generations of leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators. The opening of the new laboratory and the celebration of the KCSE success are clear indicators that Uasin Gishu is on the path to becoming a hub of educational excellence, where every child is given the tools and opportunities they need to excel.
“Education is the greatest gift we can give our children,” I concluded. “As we move forward, we will continue to work together to ensure that every student in Uasin Gishu has access to a quality education that will empower them to make a positive impact on our community and our nation.”
