In a significant move to uplift communities and foster economic self-reliance, Kiambu County Woman Representative, Hon. Ann Wamuratha, led an empowerment drive in Rurii Village, Nyacaba, Witeithie Ward. The initiative, which directly impacted individuals and groups, aimed to equip beneficiaries with the necessary tools to enhance their livelihoods, support small businesses, and improve access to education and mobility.
The event saw the distribution of empowerment cheques to five community groups, offering them much-needed financial support to strengthen their economic activities. Additionally, a needy student was awarded a full scholarship, ensuring that financial constraints do not stand in the way of their education.
Recognizing the role of small businesses in economic growth, Hon. Wamuratha’s initiative provided essential business tools to enable entrepreneurs to expand their ventures. Beneficiaries received market umbrellas, motorbike canopies, hair dryers, blow dryers, welding machines, shaving machines, bebabeba trolleys, and sausage and egg trolleys. These resources are expected to boost local enterprises, enhance productivity, and improve the economic well-being of the recipients.
In her ongoing commitment to inclusivity and support for persons living with disabilities, Hon. Wamuratha also donated a wheelchair, reaffirming her dedication to ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their physical abilities, have the means to lead dignified and independent lives.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Wamuratha emphasized that empowerment is more than financial assistance—it is about providing individuals with the tools and opportunities they need to thrive. She highlighted the importance of creating long-term solutions that enable communities to become self-sufficient and resilient in the face of economic challenges.
“This initiative is about changing lives and creating opportunities. By equipping our people with the right tools, we are not just helping them for today—we are giving them the means to build a sustainable future for themselves and their families,” she stated.
The empowerment program aligns with Hon. Wamuratha’s broader vision for a self-reliant and economically vibrant Kiambu County. She reiterated her commitment to expanding such initiatives across different wards, ensuring that more residents benefit from capacity-building programs and economic support.
As the journey of empowerment continues, more communities stand to benefit from similar impactful programs, strengthening the foundation for sustainable development, business growth, and economic transformation in Kiambu County.
