Kiambu Woman Representative Hon. Ann Wamuratha has reaffirmed her commitment to empowering youth through technical and digital skills as she seeks to transform the Kiambu Rehabilitation Centre into an ICT hub and resource centre. During a visit to Kabete National Polytechnic, one of Kenya’s leading technical institutions, she benchmarked best practices in technical and vocational education to align with her vision for youth empowerment and skills development in Kiambu County.
Established in 1924, Kabete National Polytechnic has grown into a premier institution offering hands-on training in various technical fields. While touring the institution, Hon. Wamuratha engaged with students and faculty members, commending their dedication to quality education and skills development. She acknowledged the existing challenges faced by technical institutions and pledged to collaborate with stakeholders to enhance learning opportunities for young people.
Her visit emphasized the crucial role of partnerships between leaders and educational institutions in equipping youth with skills that align with Kenya’s economic and technological advancement. By strengthening technical education, the initiative aims to create more employment opportunities and foster innovation among young people in Kiambu.
Hon. Wamuratha was accompanied by ICT Director Wesley Kiprop, Deputy Administrator Anestine Watìrì, Head of Department Catherine Nyongesa, and Head of Institution Mrs. Evelyn, among other officials. Their presence highlighted the collective effort required to strengthen technical education and digital transformation in the county.
As the world shifts towards a digital economy, Hon. Wamuratha’s vision to establish an ICT hub and resource centre will equip Kiambu youth with the necessary skills to compete in the global job market. Her dedication to bridging the skills gap through technical and digital education marks a significant step toward economic empowerment and youth development in the county.
