Hon. Rebecca Miano, alongside regional leaders and staff from the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife, and Heritage today joined the vibrant community of Gathaara Ward in Nyandarua County to plant 6,000 tree seedlings. This initiative is part of the ministry’s accelerated tree planting schedule, aligned with President William Ruto’s ambitious goal of planting 15 billion trees by the year 2032.
The tree planting event, aimed at supporting forest restoration and climate change mitigation efforts, underscores the importance of environmental sustainability in the country’s development agenda. Hon. Miano emphasized that nature thrives when nurtured, and in turn, it sustains the well-being of communities.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to supporting President Ruto’s vision for a greener Kenya. Planting these 6,000 trees is a step towards forest restoration, climate change mitigation, and ensuring a sustainable future for our children,” Hon. Miano said during the event.
The tree planting drive is a critical component of Kenya’s environmental strategy, aiming to replenish forests and protect biodiversity across the country. The efforts are also aligned with the government’s broader focus on addressing climate challenges, which has been a central part of President Ruto’s administration.
The residents of Gathaara Ward expressed their gratitude for the tree planting initiative, recognizing its importance in enhancing local ecosystems and providing long-term environmental benefits.
As part of Kenya’s broader environmental restoration plans, this project reflects the government’s determination to meet the tree planting target, contributing significantly to efforts against deforestation and climate change.
