Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen Pays Courtesy Call on Chief Justice Martha Koome

Interior Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, today paid a courtesy call to the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, Hon. Martha Koome. The meeting, held at the Supreme Court, focused on key discussions aimed at enhancing security measures within the judiciary and improving traffic law enforcement in Kenya.

During the meeting, Murkomen and Koome deliberated on various avenues of collaboration to fortify the security of judicial officers and the integrity of the judicial system. The Cabinet Secretary underscored the government's commitment to ensuring that the judiciary remains an independent, secure institution, free from external interference or threats. Both leaders agreed on the need to bolster security infrastructure to protect judicial officers as they carry out their duties across the country.

In addition, the two leaders discussed the implementation of instant traffic fines as a strategy to improve road safety and ease congestion in the court system. Murkomen highlighted that the initiative would provide an efficient way to address traffic violations, reducing the burden on the judicial system and ensuring timely enforcement of the law. He emphasized that this would not only improve the safety of roads but also contribute to the decongestion of courts by diverting less serious cases from the judicial pipeline.

"We are committed to improving both the security of our judicial officers and the safety of all Kenyans. The discussions today on strengthening the Judiciary’s security framework and introducing instant traffic fines are part of our broader strategy to enhance the efficiency of our legal system and promote public safety," Murkomen stated.

Chief Justice Koome welcomed the partnership and commended the Interior Ministry for its ongoing efforts to support the judiciary. She noted that the proposed measures would be crucial in reinforcing public confidence in the judicial system, ensuring safety, and promoting the rule of law.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing their eagerness to continue working together on these initiatives to improve judicial services and safety on Kenya’s roads.
