In a powerful effort to end Female Genital Mutilation and Cutting (FGM/C) in 2025, the Isiolo County Government has unveiled a comprehensive strategy led by Rosaline Gollo Guyo, the CEO and founder of WASO HOPE and Shine Consultancy (HSC). The initiative, driven by Ms. Guyo’s unwavering commitment, aims to bring an end to FGM/C in the county through community engagement and holistic support for survivors.
On January 1, 2025, the “Journey for Hope Isiolo” walk officially launched, marking the beginning of a year-long campaign to raise awareness and eradicate FGM. The walk symbolizes a clear vision and mission focused on ending violence against women and girls, and it aligns with the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, set to be observed on February 6, under the theme: "Stepping up the pace: Strengthening alliances and building movements to end FGM."
HSC, under Ms. Guyo’s leadership, provides therapeutic support through organized walks, mental health services, and survivor networking, helping individuals heal and empowering them to stand against FGM. In her role as a mentor to all civil society organizations (CSOs) working against FGM in Isiolo, Guyo stresses that the fight to end this harmful practice is a collective effort, calling on all non-governmental organizations to actively engage at the grassroots level.
Guyo also emphasized the critical involvement of men in the movement, stating that their participation is vital for achieving lasting change. "FGM should end with us," she passionately declared. She has committed herself to the cause, vowing to continue her work against FGM/C until her last breath.
The initiative has gained momentum across the Isiolo community, with Guyo’s personal involvement and the active participation of her daughters, husband, friends, and the entire CSO network serving as a powerful example of dedication and unity in the fight against FGM.
As Isiolo County sets its sights on a future free from FGM, the leadership of Rosaline Gollo Guyo and the strength of the community’s collective efforts provide hope for a brighter, safer future for women and girls in the region.
