Kenya and Norway have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the blue economy sector.
The agreement was formalized today at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change offices, with the Director General of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Mamo B. Mamo, EBS, leading the Kenyan delegation on behalf of Dr. Eng. Festus Ngeno, the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Environment and Climate Change. The Norwegian delegation was led by Ambassador Gunner Andreas.
This MoU cements a strategic partnership between the Royal Norwegian Embassy and the Government of Kenya, focusing on sustainable ocean planning, marine aquaculture development, climate change mitigation and adaptation, technical and scientific research, and capacity building on fisheries management and the blue economy.
Speaking at the event, Mamo B. Mamo emphasized the importance of international cooperation in addressing environmental challenges and maximizing the economic potential of Kenya’s marine resources. Ambassador Gunner Andreas echoed these sentiments, reaffirming Norway’s commitment to supporting Kenya in achieving sustainable ocean governance and fisheries management.
This partnership marks a new era of strengthened bilateral relations, fostering innovative solutions for marine conservation and economic growth in Kenya’s blue economy sector.
