The Kenya Kwanza government is intensifying its efforts to tackle emerging challenges in the implementation of the Social Health Authority (SHA), a key component of the country’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) plan. Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki confirmed that the government is currently formulating policies and administrative measures to ensure the effective and sustainable execution of the universal healthcare system.

Speaking at a National and County Government Health Conference at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi, on Monday, Prof. Kindiki emphasized that providing quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare services is central to the administration's vision for driving economic transformation in the country. He acknowledged the challenges faced in the rollout of the SHA but reassured the public that the government is working on solutions to improve service delivery.

"We are not leaving anything to chance. The success of Universal Health Coverage and Taifa Care is a personal matter to every Kenyan household," said Prof. Kindiki. "We have a moment to make history, and we need to work together with all stakeholders, development partners, government agencies, and county governments to make this a reality."

The Deputy President’s remarks come amid growing concerns and feedback from the public regarding gaps in the social health system. Addressing these concerns, Prof. Kindiki outlined that the government is committed to improving the efficiency of the healthcare system to ensure it meets the needs of all Kenyans.

Dr. Deborah Barasa, the Minister of Health, and Ahmed Abdullahi, the Chairman of the Council of Governors, were also present at the conference, underscoring the collaborative efforts of both national and county governments in driving UHC. The gathering marks a significant milestone in the ongoing review of UHC implementation, with key stakeholders convening to discuss the status of healthcare delivery and map out strategies for addressing the challenges that have surfaced.

The discussions also included a high-level consultative meeting with key government stakeholders in the health sector, with a focus on improving the delivery of healthcare services to the public.

The Kenya Kwanza administration’s focus on UHC and the rollout of the Taifa Care program is seen as a crucial step towards achieving long-term health equity for all Kenyans, while ensuring that no one is left behind in accessing essential healthcare services.

As the country moves forward with this ambitious plan, the government remains steadfast in its commitment to improving the healthcare sector, with the hope of creating a lasting impact on the lives of all Kenyans.
