Mbotela, most famous for his iconic radio program "Je, Huu Ni Ungwana?", was not just a broadcaster; he was a moral compass for the country, challenging Kenyans to embrace values of honesty, decency, and integrity in their everyday lives. Through his voice, he ignited reflection, urged societal accountability, and inspired millions to pursue a higher standard of living. His program was a beacon of ethical conduct, and his ability to make even the most complex societal issues relatable was a testament to his exceptional skill and passion for journalism.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi expressed deep sorrow at the passing of the media titan, acknowledging the profound impact Mbotela had on shaping both the media landscape and the moral consciousness of the country. "Leonard Mambo Mbotela was more than just a broadcaster—he was a mentor and a guide to many of us in the media and public life. His 'Je, Huu Ni Ungwana?' program was a powerful tool for instilling integrity and good morals in a society that often needed reminders of the importance of ethics. We are forever grateful for his contributions," said MP Sudi.

Beyond his electrifying commentaries, Mbotela's legacy is also firmly rooted in the generations of journalists he mentored. He dedicated much of his time and energy to nurturing young talent, weaving the principles of ethics and professionalism into the very fabric of Kenya's media industry. His influence helped shape not only the broadcasters of his time but also those who followed in his footsteps, ensuring that his ethos of journalistic integrity remains alive.

In his final years, Mbotela’s name continued to resonate across Kenya, with many looking back at his career with admiration and respect for his unmatched ability to remain true to his values. His voice, his wisdom, and his moral compass will be sorely missed.

"We mourn the loss of Mzee Mbotela, but we also celebrate the invaluable gift he gave us through his work and his teachings," added MP Oscar Sudi. "Rest well, Mzee—Makiwa! You’ve left an indelible mark on this country, and your legacy will continue to inspire for generations to come."
