The Kenya School of Government (KSG), through its Institute for Gender and Social Development, in collaboration with Beyond Zero, recently convened a stakeholder roundtable meeting in preparation for the upcoming Women’s Conference. This conference, set to take place at Lower Kabete, will serve as a precursor to International Women’s Day, celebrated globally on March 8. The theme of the event, Bridging Generations: Advancing Gender Equality, Harnessing Innovation, highlights the importance of fostering gender equality through innovation and collaboration across generations.

In her remarks during the meeting, KSG Director General, Prof. Nura Mohamed, emphasized that gender equality is not an automatic achievement but a goal that requires deliberate and consistent effort. She stated, “Gender equality does not happen by chance—it is something we must actively aim for, taking into consideration the space, time, and empowerment of women of all ages.” Prof. Mohamed’s statement underscored the need for multi-generational participation and intentional policy action to achieve lasting gender equality.

The meeting brought together various stakeholders committed to advancing gender equality. Among the partners present were representatives from the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Gates Foundation, UN Women, Mama Doing Good, and the Uwezo Fund. These partners expressed their support for the conference and their shared commitment to addressing the unique challenges women face across different life stages.

The Women’s Conference, which aims to promote meaningful dialogue and collaboration, is expected to provide a platform for discussing critical issues around women’s empowerment, innovative solutions, and actionable steps toward gender equality. The event is anticipated to be an important milestone in the ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable society for women in Kenya and beyond.

As the nation prepares for International Women’s Day, KSG and Beyond Zero’s collaboration stands as a testament to the importance of continued advocacy and action towards empowering women and ensuring their equal participation in all spheres of life.
