Langas Ward MCA Francis Muya Mwangi, has called on political leaders in Uasin Gishu County to maintain respect for one another, urging them to work together for the benefit of the county.
His remarks come in the wake of a public exchange of bitter words between Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and the area MP for Uasin Gishu, David Kipalagat (alias DK), during a fundraising event to assist those affected by a fire that destroyed property in the region.
Speaking to the press, MCA Muya stressed the importance of unity among all leaders in Uasin Gishu, saying that it was time for the county’s representatives to speak with one voice. "We would like to speak in one voice as Uasin Gishu," he said. "The issue of fighting among ourselves must come to an end. Everybody has been assigned their work, and we must respect each other."
MCA Muya’s call for unity follows a public confrontation at a fundraising event, where Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and Uasin Gishu MP David Kipalagat engaged in a heated exchange. The dispute occurred during efforts to raise funds for victims of a devastating fire that destroyed several properties in the area, causing considerable hardship for the affected families.
The Langas Ward MCA expressed concern over the negative impact such public disagreements can have on the political landscape in Uasin Gishu. "As leaders, it is our duty to serve the people, and we must work together in a respectful and cooperative manner. The people of Uasin Gishu deserve leaders who set a good example, not one where disagreements overshadow their development needs," he remarked.
Muya's call for respect among political leaders also extended to the county leadership as a whole, including Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii. "I urge all six Uasin Gishu MPs, led by Governor Jonathan Bii, to respect one another. If we work together and support each other, we can achieve more for our county," he added.
The MCA’s plea highlights the growing concerns within Uasin Gishu about the fractious political climate, especially with the heightened public attention following the altercation between MPs Sudi and Kipalagat. The clash, which involved sharp verbal exchanges, has raised questions about the level of cooperation among leaders within the county, with many residents hoping for a more harmonious and productive working relationship.
He emphasized that political disagreements should be resolved constructively, and that the priority must always be the welfare of Uasin Gishu’s residents. "Our focus should be on helping the people who elected us, not on fighting amongst ourselves. Let’s put the people first and move forward together," he said.
