Martha Karua, the incoming leader of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), has expressed her commitment to working alongside former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and other leaders to advance Kenya’s transformation. In a recent statement, Karua emphasized her dedication to national unity and her openness to collaborating with any leader who shares a vision for redeeming the nation.
"I am ready to work not just with Raila but with any leader who is committed to transforming Kenya," Karua stated, expressing a willingness to put aside political differences for the sake of national progress. However, she firmly ruled out the possibility of being a running mate in the 2027 General Election, declaring, "I am done with the role."
Karua’s comments come after her previous role as Raila Odinga's running mate during the 2022 presidential election under the Azimio la Umoja coalition. Following the election, Karua was vocal about her disagreement with the Supreme Court's ruling on the results, stating, "The court has spoken. I respect but disagree with the findings." This stance had sparked significant debate, but her focus now seems to be on fostering unity and collaboration across the political spectrum.
The announcement that Karua is not considering a deputy presidential role in the upcoming election signals a shift in her political trajectory. Instead, she is positioning herself as a leader ready to take charge, willing to work with other influential political figures, including Raila Odinga, but from a different perspective this time.
