A team from Meru National Polytechnic, led by the Dean of Students, Mr. John Kiura, visited the Technical Environment and Nature Polytechnic (TENP) yesterday for a benchmarking session on the use of green energy, specifically biogas. The delegation, which was also accompanied by staff from Sian Biogas Limited, was warmly received by the Deputy Principal – Administration and the Environment Officer at TENP.
The visit aimed to explore sustainable energy solutions and assess the successful implementation of biogas technology in promoting environmental conservation and cost-effective energy use. As the world moves towards embracing green energy to combat climate change, the Meru National Polytechnic team sought to gain insights into how biogas is being utilized as an alternative energy source in various institutions.
During the visit, the delegation from Meru National Polytechnic toured TENP's biogas facilities and were briefed on the process of biogas production, its uses, and the environmental benefits it offers. The team expressed great interest in incorporating similar green energy systems into their institution, underscoring the importance of such initiatives for both educational purposes and environmental sustainability.
Mr. Kiura, the Dean of Students at Meru National Polytechnic, commended TENP for its efforts in promoting green energy and acknowledged the significance of partnerships with organizations such as Sian Biogas Limited in helping institutions achieve their environmental goals. "We are inspired by what we have seen today and hope to adopt these practices in our own institution to help contribute to the sustainable development goals," he said.
The Deputy Principal of TENP expressed his pleasure in hosting the team and emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing green energy initiatives across educational institutions. "At TENP, we are committed to leading by example when it comes to sustainable energy solutions. This visit strengthens our resolve to continue integrating green technologies into our curriculum and daily operations," he said.
The visit concluded with both institutions discussing potential future partnerships aimed at promoting renewable energy and environmental conservation. The collaboration between Meru National Polytechnic, TENP, and Sian Biogas Limited is expected to inspire more institutions to explore the benefits of biogas as part of their sustainability strategies.
