In a momentous swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Prof. Kiplagat Kitut, the Vice-Chancellor of Moi University, reminded the newly elected student leaders of their responsibility to serve with integrity and dedication. The ceremony, which marked the official inauguration of the 37th Student Council and the 37th College Representatives, took place at the Moi University Main Campus.

During his address, Prof. Kitut stressed the importance of collaborative leadership between the student council and the university management. He encouraged the student leaders to prioritize the needs of their fellow students, stating, "Work with the management to ensure students' needs are met; they are your first customers." His message resonated with the theme of service, urging the student leaders to remain focused on meeting the needs of their peers while maintaining a strong commitment to their academic responsibilities.

The Vice-Chancellor also took the opportunity to offer words of encouragement to the outgoing student council. He urged them to use their leadership experiences as stepping stones for future political careers. “Build on the leadership experience you’ve gained here, and aim for higher positions after school,” Prof. Kitut advised, acknowledging the valuable skills learned during their tenure.

Drawing inspiration from the Bible, Prof. Kitut referenced Philippians 4:13 and Proverbs 3:5-6, advising the new student council members to seek divine guidance in their leadership journey. He closed his address with a powerful declaration: "Moi University is a giant that has just woken up," urging the student leaders to be part of the ongoing transformation of the institution.

In his remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Khaemba Ongeti, echoed the call for integrity, inclusivity, and the promotion of the institution’s core values. He encouraged the new council to be proactive in raising and addressing student grievances, assuring them that the university administration would work to resolve key issues, including the persistent problem of missing marks.

The newly elected Students' President, Chonjela Peter, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the student body for entrusting him and his team with the responsibility of leadership. He emphasized that their focus would be on uniting the diverse campuses of Moi University into a single cohesive institution. "Our dream is to make Moi University an intergenerational institution," Chonjela declared, underscoring the importance of inclusivity and long-term vision in shaping the future of the university.

Chonjela also addressed critical issues affecting students, including the challenge of missing marks and the need for improved sound systems in auditoriums to enhance the learning environment. He emphasized that the university’s primary goal is to ensure that students have the necessary resources to achieve their dreams and academic goals.

The swearing-in ceremony marked a new chapter for Moi University’s student leadership, as the new council sets out to make a lasting impact on the university’s vibrant student body. With a strong emphasis on teamwork, integrity, and academic excellence, the new student leaders are poised to navigate the challenges of university life while striving to improve the overall student experience.
