Mombasa Senator Mohamed Faki Elected Chairperson of Senate Land Committee, Karen Nyamu as Deputy

Mombasa Senator Mohamed Faki has been elected as the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Land, Environment, and Natural Resources, with Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu chosen as his Deputy. The unanimous decision was made during a session held on Monday at the Parliament Buildings.

In his acceptance speech, Senator Faki expressed his gratitude to the Committee members for entrusting him with the leadership role. He highlighted the Committee's significant mandate, which spans critical issues such as land rights, environmental protection, and mining, all of which require focused attention and action.

“Our task is much bigger than what we have on paper, but with the cooperation of Committee members and the secretariat, we will accomplish all we set out to achieve in our work plan,” said Senator Faki.

Senator Nyamu also addressed the gathering, thanking the members for entrusting her with the position of Vice Chairperson. She reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring the committee meets its objectives and serves the people of Kenya effectively.

"I am honored by the confidence you have shown in me. I promise to serve diligently, ensuring the success of our mandate and the betterment of the nation," Nyamu stated.

The election of Faki and Nyamu comes at a critical time as the Committee is poised to tackle some of the most pressing land, environmental, and natural resource issues in the country. The leadership duo is expected to steer discussions and policies that will shape the future of Kenya’s land and environmental sectors.
