Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) marked the annual World Day of the Sick on February 11, 2025, with a solemn event aimed at raising awareness about the importance of prayer, compassion, and support for the sick. The event was held at the MTRH St. Camilus Catholic Chapel, where a special Mass was celebrated by Bishop John K. Arap Lelei, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Eldoret Diocese.
Dr. Benjamin Tarus, the Senior Director of Administration & Finance at MTRH, represented the CEO at the occasion. The Bishop, accompanied by key hospital leaders, offered prayers for the healing and strength of all those affected by illness. This year’s theme, "Hope does not disappoint but strengthens us in times of trial" (Romans 5:5), served as a message of encouragement for both the patients and healthcare providers at the hospital.
The World Day of the Sick is observed annually by the Catholic Church to highlight the significance of offering one’s suffering for the greater good of the Church and to encourage compassion towards the sick. It serves as a reminder to see the face of Christ in every person who suffers, bringing together individuals from all walks of life in prayer and support.
In addition to the clergy, the ceremony was attended by various notable figures, including Christine Tonui, Director of Health Administration, Dr. Eunice Temet, the Acting Director of Mental Health & Rehabilitative Services, the Chaplaincy Team, St. Camilus faithful, and MTRH staff.
During the Mass, the Bishop offered words of hope and prayers for all who are suffering, particularly those in the hospital receiving treatment. He also commended the healthcare workers for their dedication and service to the sick.
The event provided a moment of reflection and solidarity for all involved, reinforcing the importance of hope, faith, and care for those in need. The hospital remains committed to providing quality healthcare while upholding the values of compassion and empathy, especially for those enduring physical and emotional challenges.
