Since its establishment in 1972 with just 690 members, the SACCO has experienced tremendous growth, now serving an impressive 74,000 members. This milestone underscores the SACCO's commitment to financial excellence, accountability, and the resilience of its leadership and membership.
In his address, Chairperson Mr. David Mategwa highlighted the SACCO's robust financial performance, reporting a 10.3% increase in its overall asset base in 2024. He also celebrated the SACCO’s recognition as the Best Managed SACCO in Kenya for the fourth consecutive year, an honor earned during the National Ushirika Day celebrations.
The SACCO’s commitment to social responsibility was evident in its sponsorship programme, which supports children of deceased members. Last year, 52 beneficiaries were assisted, with 48 securing university admission. Furthermore, the SACCO continues to make significant infrastructure investments, including the construction of classrooms at Utumishi Primary School, enhancements to Utumishi Boys Academy, and the establishment of a water tower and gymnasium at the National Police College, Main Campus Kiganjo.
Dr. Michael Wanderi, AIG, Director of Human Capital Development, represented the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Mr. Douglas Kanja Kirocho, at the event. He commended the SACCO’s achievements and stressed the importance of continued innovation and sound governance in achieving even greater success.
The Principal Secretary for Co-operatives & MSMEs Development, Patrick Kiburi Kilemi, delivered remarks on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Dr. Wycliffe Oparanya. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting SACCOs and highlighted ongoing legislative efforts to strengthen the cooperative sector.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Chief Justice, Lady Justice Philomena Mwilu, the Commissioner for Co-operatives Development, Mr. David Obonyo, and the Managing Director of the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives (KUSCCO), Mr. Arnold Munene.
The Annual Delegates’ Meeting and launch of the Strategic Plan for 2025-2029 signals a new chapter in the SACCO's continued growth and its ongoing efforts to serve its members and communities with dedication and excellence.
