The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, today held an important meeting with the Director General of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Mr. George Njao, at the National Police Service (NPS) Headquarters in Nairobi.
The key focus of their discussion was strengthening the collaboration between the NTSA and NPS in order to enhance the country’s transport system and enforce traffic laws more effectively. Both leaders expressed their shared commitment to ensuring a safe, reliable, and efficient transport system across Kenya.
Mr. Njao expressed his gratitude to the NPS for its continued support in addressing road safety concerns and pledged ongoing cooperation to tackle the challenges of road accidents, reckless driving, and traffic impunity.
"We are committed to working hand in hand with the National Police Service to restore sanity on our roads, and we appreciate the role the NPS plays in ensuring the enforcement of traffic laws," Mr. Njao stated.
In response, IG Kanja praised the positive working relationship between the two organizations. He emphasized that the NPS is dedicated to dealing with road safety issues through enhanced law enforcement and better coordination.
"The National Police Service is focused on curbing reckless driving and impunity on our roads. We are also working towards automating our services, including the use of static traffic cameras and instant fines, to enhance both transparency and efficiency," said IG Kanja.
The meeting also explored the introduction of new technologies to further improve traffic law enforcement, in line with the ongoing modernization efforts within the police service. Both leaders stressed that the focus will remain on reducing road accidents and ensuring that those responsible for endangering lives face appropriate legal consequences.
Also present during the meeting was the NPS Spokesperson, Mr. Muchiri Nyaga, CP, who supported the ongoing efforts to streamline law enforcement for improved road safety.
The discussions concluded with both parties reaffirming their shared vision of a safer road environment for all Kenyans, as well as their commitment to ensuring greater accountability in traffic management.
