The first Busia Governor H.E Sospeter Ojaamong has revealed categorically that the person to lead Busia County after 2027 General elections should have a proper understanding about issues afflicting the county.
Addressing mourners on Saturday during the burial of Toto Federesi Among'o Amake at Ong'ariama village, Among'ura location in Teso South Sub County, Ojaamong apart from being knowledgeable, the person picked should not be based on tribe.
H.E Ojaamong said PAS Arthur Osiya and Engineer Vincent Sidai are meeting the threshold of taking the mantle from the incumbent Dr Paul Otuoma.
While thanking county residents for leading them for 10 years at the helm of the county without any insults or being stoned, Ojaamong said the county leadership needs a paragdim shift.
" When my successor took over, he bragged that he would better the development record I achieved in 10 years within 100 days. Three and half years down the line, nothing is forthcoming," he said.
Governor Emeritus said he brought co-existence among county residents, unlike the current leadership whose clarion call is 10/10 geared towards clinging to power until 2032.
" Butula residents have rejected the current leadership, but instead, they want a competent person to lead them and better my performance," Ojaamong said.
H.E Ojaamong urged county residents to live harmoniously, adding that they will bring to the negotiation table Osiya and Sidai ahead of the titanic battle in 2027.
Former Burumba MCA Moses Ochieng described Ojaamong as a pillar of unity, but the current leadership has no development agenda.
" Ojaamong led the county in a systematic and sobber manner. Currently, we feel isolated. Ateker should peacefully give us Sidai in 2027," Ochieng said.
Former Amukura Central MCA Moses Pius Ouma aka Mose Baaba, claimed that the county had received Ksh21billion from the exchequer for the last three and half years and yet it can't match neighbouring counties in development.
Victor Okiya Didindi, who represented Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, said it was good news for the formation of the Kenya Sugar Board, adding that this will improve the price of sugarcane.
In his sermon, Kaliwa parish priest Fr Alphonce Khisa said the late Toto had celebrated a life of fulfilment and satisfaction, noting that she lived a life of faith for a record 88 years.

Toto Federesi will be remembered as a founder member of Akukuranut Development Trust (ADT), a local non-profit organization in Busia County that partnered with KCDF to implement the " Bee Keeping for Poverty Alleviation and Livelihood Sustainability in Rural Communities Project' to empower vulnerable households that area languishing in poverty within their community.
The beneficiaries of this trust hailed from Teso South and Teso North Sub Counties.
Toto, 87, had been hailing for many years from hypertension and diabetes. She was the mother to former St Paul's Amukura High School Principal Fidelis Ojakol Amake.
KNUT Teso Branch Executive Secretary Geoffrey Ekasiba, who sent condolences on behalf of teachers, urged parents to take children to school.
Alupe University Dean of Health Sciences Dr William Okedi said the portal for admission of new students will be opened soon to pursue various courses like engineering, health sciences, and business, regretting that the varsity has recorded very few students from Teso region.
