Police have confirmed that the body recovered from a remote area on the outskirts of Nairobi City belongs to Mark Reynolds, a 42-year-old British trader who went missing two weeks ago. Forensic tests, along with personal belongings found with the body, were key in identifying Reynolds, who had been in Kenya on business.
Authorities said Reynolds was reported missing after he failed to return to his hotel, sparking a large-scale search effort. His family and friends, including his sister Emma Reynolds, had pleaded for information regarding his whereabouts.
“We are heartbroken,” Emma Reynolds said in a statement. “Mark was a kind, hardworking man who loved Kenya. We just want justice for him.”
Local business partner James Kariuki described Reynolds as a dedicated professional with big plans for investments in Kenya. "This is a tragic loss," he added.
Inspector David Mutua, who is leading the investigation, confirmed the identification and said that the cause of death is yet to be determined. However, sources indicate that foul play is suspected. "We will not rest until we find those responsible," Inspector Mutua said.
The body of Mark Reynolds will be returned to the UK for burial. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time as they mourn the loss of a loved one. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
Reynolds’ tragic death marks a painful chapter for both his family and the Kenyan business community, who remembered him as a committed and hopeful investor.
