President William Ruto has officially launched the Sh1.4 billion Last Mile Phase IV Connectivity Project in Kwale County, aimed at connecting over 12,700 households to the national power grid. The initiative, which is part of the government's broader plan to expand electricity access across the country, is expected to significantly boost the region's economic potential.

During his visit to Kwale on Tuesday, President Ruto emphasized the transformative power of the project, highlighting its ability to unlock new economic opportunities for the local population. "The Sh1.4 billion Last Mile Connectivity Project in Kwale County will provide electricity to over 12,700 households, unlocking new opportunities for economic growth," President Ruto stated.

The President also noted that the project would have a far-reaching impact on key sectors such as agribusiness and the blue economy, which are vital to the region's economic development. "By powering agribusiness and the blue economy, this initiative will drive wealth creation and improve livelihoods across the region," he added.

The launch event, held at Kiwegu Secondary School grounds in Vanga, also saw President Ruto unveil newly furnished classrooms and a laboratory at the school, further underlining the government's commitment to improving education and infrastructure in the area.

The Last Mile Phase IV Connectivity Project is expected to play a crucial role in uplifting living standards, boosting local economies, and narrowing the development gap between rural and urban areas. The initiative is in line with the government's goal to expand electricity coverage to rural and marginalized communities, promoting inclusive growth across the country.

Launched in 2014, the Last Mile Connectivity Project aims to extend electricity access to remote households by expanding the national grid into off-grid areas. With the completion of this latest phase in Kwale, the project continues to make significant strides in enhancing the quality of life for Kenyans in underserved regions.
