President Ruto Welcomes Norwegian Dawn as Kenya Strengthens Tourism and Investment Drive

President William Ruto has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening its tourism sector and attracting foreign investment as he welcomed the Norwegian Dawn, a 294-meter-long cruise ship carrying over 2,200 tourists, at the Port of Mombasa.

Speaking during a tour of the vessel, President Ruto emphasized the government’s strategic investments in quality infrastructure, aggressive marketing, and enriched tourism experiences aimed at sustainably increasing visitor numbers and driving economic growth.

“We are making deliberate efforts to position Kenya as a top global tourism destination. By investing in world-class infrastructure and enhancing our tourism offerings, we are creating an environment that attracts visitors and encourages foreign investment,” said President Ruto.

The arrival of the Norwegian Dawn marks a major milestone for Kenya’s blue economy and tourism industry, demonstrating the country’s growing appeal to international cruise operators. The docking of the vessel is expected to inject significant revenue into the local economy as tourists explore Mombasa’s historic sites, cultural attractions, and pristine coastline.

President Ruto reiterated that Kenya’s tourism sector remains a key pillar of economic transformation, with the government working on policies to ensure long-term sustainability and growth. He highlighted the expansion of port facilities, enhanced security measures, and public-private partnerships as key drivers of progress in the sector.

“As we welcome thousands of visitors today, we reaffirm our commitment to making Kenya the preferred destination for global travelers. Tourism is a crucial driver of job creation and economic prosperity, and we will continue to invest in its growth,” he added.

The President also underscored the importance of cruise tourism in diversifying Kenya’s tourism portfolio, stating that efforts are underway to attract more luxury liners to the country’s ports.

With a renewed focus on infrastructure, marketing, and experience-driven tourism, Kenya is positioning itself as a premier travel destination, ensuring sustainable growth and long-term benefits for its people.
