President William Ruto Mourns the Passing of Namibia's Founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma

 


President William Ruto of Kenya has conveyed deep condolences following the death of Namibia’s founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma, a towering figure in African liberation and politics. In a statement issued today, President Ruto expressed profound sorrow at the loss of Dr. Nujoma, remembering him as a selfless, courageous, and visionary leader who dedicated his life to securing Namibia's independence and contributing to the broader struggle for African unity and development.


"Today, Kenya joins the people of Namibia and Africa in mourning the passing of an iconic leader, Dr. Sam Nujoma," said President Ruto. "President Nujoma was a symbol of resilience, courage, and unwavering commitment to the liberation of his people. His leadership and tireless efforts in securing Namibia’s independence from colonial rule have left an indelible mark on both Namibia and Africa as a whole."


Dr. Nujoma’s leadership played a crucial role in the journey towards Namibia’s independence in 1990, following years of armed resistance against apartheid and colonial forces. As Namibia’s first President, he served for over two decades, building a foundation for the nation's political stability and development. His legacy as a staunch advocate for the oppressed and marginalized will continue to inspire generations across the continent.


In his tribute, President Ruto highlighted the importance of Dr. Nujoma’s Pan-African vision and his contributions to the global struggle for human rights, equality, and justice. “His dedication to the liberation of Namibia and his broader contributions to African unity, peace, and prosperity will always be remembered. He was not only a leader for Namibia but for all of Africa.”


Kenya’s President also expressed solidarity with the Namibian people, saying, "At this time of grief, our hearts are with the Nujoma family and the entire nation of Namibia. We stand with you in honoring his memory and reflecting on his profound impact."


President Ruto concluded his statement with a message of strength and hope: "Rest in Peace, Dr. Sam Nujoma. You will forever be remembered as a hero of Africa whose leadership and vision will continue to guide us toward a brighter future."


The Kenyan government has declared three days of national mourning in honor of Dr. Nujoma's contributions to African liberation, peace, and prosperity. Leaders across the continent and around the world are paying their respects to the iconic African statesman whose legacy transcends borders.
