In a heartfelt message following the recent election for the leadership of the African Union (AU) Commission, Kenyan President William Ruto expressed his gratitude to the continent’s leadership for considering the vision of Kenya's candidate, Right Honourable Raila Odinga.
The election, which did not result in a victory for Kenya’s candidate, underscored the collective spirit of Africa’s unity and progress, according to President Ruto. In his statement, the President thanked all those who supported Odinga’s bid, acknowledging the opportunity to present his vision for Africa’s transformation.
"I wish to convey my deepest gratitude to the entire leadership of our great continent," said President Ruto. "Thank you for considering the Right Honourable Raila Odinga’s vision and priorities for the African Union and for affording him the opportunity to share his passion for the continent’s development and transformation."
The President also extended congratulations to the newly elected Chairperson, Mahmoud Youssouf, and Deputy Chairperson, Selma Haddadi, recognizing their success and the trust placed in them by the AU Assembly.
“To their Excellencies Mahmoud Youssouf and Selma Haddadi, the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Africa Union Commission, I extend my sincere congratulations," President Ruto said. "You have the trust of the AU Assembly, and Kenya pledges her full support to you as you steer the African Union Commission to the next level.”
President Ruto emphasized that the election was not about individuals or nations but was rather centered on the future of the African continent. He expressed confidence that Africa’s future remains bright, reinforcing that the continent would continue to pursue a united, prosperous, and influential presence on the global stage.
“This election was not about individuals or nations, it was about Africa’s future," he affirmed. "That future remains bright, and, together, we will continue working for a united, prosperous, and influential Africa on the global stage.”
The statement from President Ruto further reinforces Kenya’s commitment to the growth and unity of the African Union, with the nation pledging to support its new leaders in their mission to elevate Africa’s standing in the global community.
