Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has returned to Kenya after his loss in the race for the Africa Union Commission (AUC) Chairman position. Odinga, who was warmly received upon his arrival, met with President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in Mombasa. The reception was a display of solidarity and respect for Odinga’s campaign efforts.
"I am delighted to be back home. East or West, home is the best. I feel very happy and delighted to be back in Kenya after all that we went through," Odinga stated, expressing his gratitude to the Kenyan people for their unwavering support throughout the AUC Chair bid.
The former Prime Minister took the opportunity to extend his thanks to President Ruto, Deputy President Gachagua, and the entire leadership of Kenya for the support they provided during his campaign for the prestigious position. He acknowledged the dedication of those who accompanied him to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on election day last week, recognizing their commitment to the cause.
"I want to thank you, the President, the Deputy President, the ministers, leaders, and Kenyans generally who travelled with us across the length of the African continent," Odinga said, highlighting the solidarity and efforts made by his compatriots.
Reflecting on his loss, Odinga called the experience an "eye-opener." He acknowledged that the campaign had provided valuable lessons in understanding Africa’s political landscape and the challenges it faces. "That campaign journey provided me with a different platform to understand the African continent, its challenges, and possible solutions," Odinga explained.
Despite the defeat, Odinga expressed optimism about the future and his continued dedication to African unity and progress. His return marks the end of a significant chapter in his political journey, but his commitment to serving Kenya and the broader African community remains steadfast.
