Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has congratulated the winners of the Tembea Kenya Photography Contest, lauding their artistry for not only earning accolades but also playing a pivotal role in shaping Kenya’s tourism narrative.
The contest, launched during UN Tourism Week 2024, aimed to celebrate Kenya’s breathtaking beauty through the lens of talented photographers. By capturing the country’s landscapes, cultural heritage, immersive experiences, and conservation efforts, the competition sought to promote sustainable tourism and highlight the unique attractions that make Kenya a global destination of choice.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, CS Miano emphasized the importance of visual storytelling in tourism promotion. She noted that the winning photographs would contribute significantly to marketing Kenya as a premier travel destination, both locally and internationally.
"Your artistry has not only won awards but will also shape Kenya’s tourism narrative," she remarked. "Through your lenses, the world gets to see the true essence of Kenya—our unmatched beauty, vibrant culture, and deep commitment to conservation."
The Tembea Kenya Photography Contest brought together professional and amateur photographers, with submissions covering diverse themes such as wildlife, adventure, cultural heritage, and eco-tourism. The winners were selected based on creativity, originality, and their ability to tell compelling stories about Kenya’s tourism sector.
By leveraging photography to promote tourism, the initiative aligns with the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife’s broader strategy of using digital media and visual content to boost visitor engagement. It also underscores Kenya’s dedication to sustainable tourism, ensuring that the country’s natural and cultural heritage remains preserved for future generations.
As the winning images gain prominence in tourism campaigns, exhibitions, and digital platforms, they are expected to inspire more travelers to explore Kenya, further solidifying its status as Africa’s leading travel destination.
