Religious Leaders Condemn Incitement by Political Leaders, Call for Peace and Unity

Religious leaders, led by Northrift CIPK chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini, have strongly condemned the use of derogatory language by political leaders, which they say is inciting public unrest and escalating tensions ahead of the upcoming elections. The leaders expressed concern over the rising political heat, urging for calm and peace as the nation approaches the crucial period of campaigning.

Sheikh Abubakar Bini, the Chairman of the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK), alongside former ANC member Zulfikar Hosman, warned that the country is on the brink of disaster if political leaders continue to stoke division and hatred. "The use of inflammatory language is damaging the fabric of our society, and if not curbed, it could lead to serious consequences for the unity of this nation," Sheikh Bini stated during a press briefing.

The religious leaders, who have been vocal on issues affecting the country, emphasized the need for political leaders to prioritize national unity and peace over personal gains. They called for a cessation of the rhetoric that has been fueling division, with Sheikh Bini urging both politicians and the public to be mindful of their words and actions in these crucial times.

In a separate note, the religious leaders expressed their appreciation for the government's recent move to exempt dates from duty, a decision they hailed as a major support to the Muslim community during the holy month of Ramadan. "This is a significant gesture that shows the government's commitment to the well-being of the Muslim community, and we are grateful for this timely support," said Zulfikar Hosman.

Moreover, the leaders have appealed to the government to consider sponsoring the less fortunate members of the Muslim community, particularly those who may struggle to meet the financial demands of the holy month. "It is crucial that we come together as a nation and support those who are most vulnerable, especially during such important times in the Islamic calendar," they added.

As the nation braces for the political campaigns to intensify, religious leaders like Sheikh Bini and Hosman continue to urge for peace and dialogue, stressing that Kenya's strength lies in its unity and ability to rise above political differences. The call for peace and support for the less fortunate is a reminder that the nation’s future depends on the collective responsibility of all its people, regardless of political affiliations.
