Residents of Koisagat village in Kericho County have taken to the streets in protest after the release of a murder suspect they believe is responsible for the gruesome death of a local businessman. The man's head was discovered in a sufuria at a house in the village, sparking widespread outrage and fears over ongoing insecurity in the area.

The protest, which began early in the morning, saw shops closed, businesses halted, and a general atmosphere of fear and frustration sweeping through the town. Locals allege that the suspect has been involved in several criminal activities in the region and claim that police have been colluding with him, allowing him to evade justice.

“There are cases where suspects are arrested, but they are quickly released. When they return, they mock us, saying, 'What can you do to me?'” said Brian Ngetich, a resident, expressing his anger over what he described as a cycle of impunity.

The murder is part of a broader wave of violence in the area, with one resident, Mark Too, revealing that the same day of the businessman’s death, another individual was left critically injured. “One person is already dead, and another is in critical condition at Kericho Referral Hospital, with both arms amputated. This all happened within the same day,” Too said.

In response to the protests, Kericho County Police Commander James Ngetich assured the residents that a thorough investigation was underway and that authorities would not rest until the suspect was apprehended. “We will track the suspect relentlessly, even if it means searching underwater. I assure you, within two to three weeks, we will have him in custody,” Ngetich stated.

The victim’s body has been taken to Kericho County Hospital morgue, and investigations are continuing as residents await justice. The protests have highlighted the growing tensions in the community, with many calling for increased security and accountability from local authorities.
