Barnaba Korir, Director of the Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Tour, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to the resounding success of the fourth edition of the event, held this past Saturday at Lobo Village, Eldoret.
In a statement released by Korir, he highlighted the significance of the event, noting that it lived up to its reputation as a gold-label competition, the only one of its kind in Africa. The event's success, he emphasized, was a result of the collective effort and seamless collaboration among numerous stakeholders, including the Government of Kenya, Athletics Kenya (AK), World Athletics (WA), the Uasin Gishu County Government, competitors, medical teams, volunteers, and the media.
“We are truly grateful to everyone involved,” said Korir. “Without the close working relationships and synergy between all parties, this event would not have been possible. Your dedication has made the Sirikwa Classic a standout event, and we couldn’t be prouder of what we have achieved together.”
Korir also took the opportunity to reflect on the event's global significance, calling it one of the biggest athletic competitions of the year. “This event marked a significant milestone, and we owe it to every stakeholder for playing their designated roles to perfection,” he added.
Looking ahead, Korir expressed excitement for the upcoming Kip Keino Classic World Continental Tour Gold in May, encouraging continued professionalism and passion from all involved. He also mentioned the upcoming AK Track and Field Weekend meetings, emphasizing the importance of collaboration to solidify Kenya’s position as a sports giant.
“As we take a brief moment to recharge, we are excited to continue working together on these world-class events,” Korir concluded. “May God bless all of you and continue empowering you with the knowledge and skills to grow Kenyan athletics and position our country as a top sports tourism destination.”
The success of the Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Tour highlights Kenya's growing prominence on the global athletics stage and serves as a stepping stone for future athletic events in the country.
