Soy Constituency Member of Parliament, David Kiplagat, has issued a stern warning to the Uasin Gishu County Government, threatening that citizens will stop paying taxes if fire engines are not provided within three months. Kiplagat made the remarks during a fundraising event at Moi’s Bridge on February 2nd, in support of traders and victims of a fire that destroyed over 50 shops in the area last month.
Addressing the gathering in the presence of Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, Kiplagat underscored the urgency of ensuring that the county is equipped with fire engines to prevent future tragedies. “I happen to be a speaker, and I know the law under the BFM Act Section 111 on Emergency Funds. The MP also emphasized that the county government must take responsibility and allocate the necessary resources to support the victims and prevent such incidents in the future. He further noted that Uasin Gishu has the unique advantage of having President William Ruto, who hails from the region, in a position to facilitate development and support key projects.
“We must all respect each other and work together to bring development to this county,” Kiplagat urged, calling for unity among all leaders, from the governor to the members of the county assembly. “If you do not love me, the people of Soy elected me to be their MP from 2022 to 2027, and we must respect everyone. Our work is to oversight and ensure the right things are done.”
