The Civil Society Network of Uasin Gishu County has strongly condemned the violent attack on City Management officers that occurred on 18th February 2025. The assault targeted City Manager Titus Koiyet, resulting in physical injuries to both him and two other city officials, including the City Secretary and the Human Resource Manager.
Benedine Kipruto, the Chairperson of the Uasin Gishu County Civil Society Network, issued a statement condemning the act of lawlessness and violence, describing it as a direct violation of the principles of governance and the rule of law as guaranteed by the Constitution of Kenya. The attack, carried out by a group of alleged goons who stormed the offices, left the public servants injured and in distress.
“This attack is utterly unacceptable and reflects a complete disregard for the rule of law,” Kipruto said. “Public servants must be able to execute their duties without fear or intimidation. Such acts of violence have no place in our democratic society.”
Kipruto called for immediate action from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to conduct a swift and transparent investigation into the incident. She stressed that those responsible for the attack must be held accountable to serve as a deterrent to future acts of impunity.
“We call upon the DCI to ensure that all those involved in this act of violence are arrested and brought to justice,” she said. “We will not tolerate any attempts to undermine the safety and independence of public officers in Uasin Gishu County.”
The Civil Society Network also urged local authorities to increase security measures to safeguard the well-being of city officials and staff from any further threats or attacks. Kipruto emphasized that no public servant should have to work in fear when carrying out their lawful duties.
“We also call on relevant authorities to strengthen security around our public officers. It is imperative that those working in government offices feel safe and are protected from harassment and violence while performing their roles,” she added.
Kipruto reaffirmed the Civil Society Network’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining peace in Uasin Gishu County. She called for a collective effort to ensure accountability and to ensure such violent acts do not undermine the stability and order of the region.
“Violence has no place in our governance structures. We stand firm in our demand for immediate action to ensure accountability and safeguard public servants from future harm,” Kipruto concluded.
As the investigation into the attack unfolds, Uasin Gishu County residents and officials alike are calling for stronger measures to protect the integrity and safety of their local government workers.
