The County Government of Uasin Gishu, led by Waziri Elphas Kotut, Chief Officer Elphas Lagat, and the Director of Fisheries, recently conducted a successful revenue sensitization campaign aimed at educating the local business community on the importance of revenue generation and tax collection.
The campaign, which targeted business owners across the county, emphasized the significance of taxes in driving local development and supporting government initiatives. Speaking during the event, Waziri Kotut reaffirmed the county's commitment to creating a conducive business environment for the people of Uasin Gishu. He highlighted that a stable and thriving business climate would not only boost the economy but also contribute significantly to the county's revenue generation efforts.
In a move to empower local women, the county government also took an important step in supporting female entrepreneurs. A total of 200 women from various parts of the county were given business startup materials to help them engage in income-generating activities that will further enhance revenue collections. This initiative is part of the county's broader strategy to foster gender inclusion and support women in the business community.
Additionally, the Department of Fisheries pledged continuous support to women fishmongers in Uasin Gishu, recognizing their critical role in the local economy. As part of the initiative, essential resources, including UGA, MAFUTA, KARAYA, and SUGAR, were distributed to enhance the productivity of local women entrepreneurs in the fishing sector.
So far, the sensitization campaign has successfully covered five sub-counties, with only Turbo sub-county left to complete the exercise today. The county government is hopeful that these efforts will not only improve tax compliance but also uplift the livelihoods of local business owners, especially women.
